The American public has always loved its music and its cars, and they even love those cars of people who created the music they love. The Henry Ford Museum will cater to the whim of the public who have been longing for those famous vehicles which famous stars used in the past.

The exhibit dubbed as the Rock Stars’ Cars and Guitars will take place in June 9 of this year at the Henry Ford Museum located in Dearborn, Michigan. The exhibit will showcase eighteen cars which are as legendary as the people who once drove them. The soul of rock and roll will be bared to the public with the unveiling of the cars which includes the rides of Elvis Presley and John Lennon among others.

Aside from cars, the exhibit will also feature a wide variety of guitars that were once used by rock and roll superstars.

The exhibit will showcase cars, guitars, and motorcycles on loan from other museums and private individuals. The Petersen Automotive Museum, the Hard Rock Café, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum Inc. are the natural homes of the cars and guitars to be shown at the exhibit on the ninth of June. Christian Overland, the Vice President of Museums and Collections for The Henry Ford Museum, has this to say about the exhibit: “Rock & roll and custom-car culture are important expressions of American freedom and individualism. This exhibition presents an opportunity to see some of the iconic cars of rock & roll and understand the artistic expressions of the stars.”

Among the eighteen cars to be showcased at the event is the 1965 Rolls Royce Phantom V owned by the immortal Beatles member John Lennon. True to the age where Lennon grew up, the car is pained in a psychedelic floral motif. This will surely have people silently singing “Imagine”.

Another legendary car which will make an appearance at the exhibit is the 1949 Cadillac custom designed by blues rock band ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons. The car is dubbed as the “CadZZilla” and is one of the most recognized hot rods in the rock world.

Another legendary car that will be showcased at the aforementioned event is the 1971 De Tomaso Pantera formerly owned by Elvis Presley. The popularity of the car is attributed to a bullet hole shot into the car by the King himself.

Another vehicle that will make an appearance at the event is the 1932 Ford Coupe “Silver Sapphire” which became famous when it appeared on the cover of another rock and roll icon - the Beach Boys’ album. The Silver Sapphire was featured in the cover of the “Little Deuce Coupe” album of the popular rock and roll band.

Another 1932 vehicle from Ford also made it to the exhibit. The Ford model in question is the 1932 Ford Hi-Boy Phaeton hot rod. The hot rod became popular when it was used by hard rock band Van Halen on the music video for their song “Hot for Teacher”. At the end of the music video, Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth smoked the tires of the car as he sped away from the school.

These vehicles have become a part of the auto industry in the fact that they have generated interest on cars during their tenure as the ride of the rich and famous. All these cars have been known for their performance and the use of aftermarket parts, although it is highly improbable that a Nissan cold air intake system was used on any of those cars.

When Elvis Presley died, his estate was worth over $10 million dollars1. Then it went through probate.

After appraisal costs, legal fees, executor’s fees, and estate taxes, “The King’s” estate was left with only $3 million.2 Because of improper estate planning, a whopping 73% of Elvis’ estate was wiped out. So what did all that money pay for? And how can you avoid some of the same mistakes? Let’s find out.

Probate is the (usually lengthy) process of proving if a will is valid, clearing your estate of any debt, and making sure that no one challenges it. All of this takes place in court, which adds to the costliness. Will or no will, an estate must go through probate.

But there are ways to reduce or eliminate costs associated with the complicated legal process. One of the most efficient includes establishing a trust. Assets and property within a properly drafted trust don’t have to pass through probate. On top of that, upon death, assets are passed on relatively quickly, especially when compared with probate. Your assets are also more protected from creditors when placed in a trust.

But trusts aren’t your only option. If you choose not to establish a trust, there are several ways you can help reduce costs. One of the best and easiest ways is to be prepared. If you have a 401(k), an IRA, a life insurance policy, or all three, then you have three separate beneficiaries to name. By routinely updating your beneficiary designation, you avoid unwanted inheritances and ensure that your wishes are carried out. Any assets that pass through beneficiary designations aren’t subject to probate, which makes their accuracy even more crucial.

You can also choose to own assets jointly with someone else. From stocks to houses, if you own something jointly, that property is passed onto the survivor automatically. Also, many brokerage houses and banks allow you to name a beneficiary on your personal accounts by establishing a TOD (Transfer on Death) account. It’s one more way that your assets will pass relatively quickly and easily to whomever you wish. Upon death, your accounts and their contents will be passed to whomever you’ve named.

One other option is to gift your assets to family or friends before you pass away. By gifting the maximum tax-free amount each year ($11,000 in 2005), you reduce the amount of your estate, which, in turn usually reduces the amount of probate costs, which are usually based on the total estate value.

By properly planning your estate with a financial professional and an estate planning attorney, you can increase your chances of decreasing probate costs and avoiding costly mistakes. While not many people like to discuss their own mortality, the thought of family, friends, or charity losing large percentages of their inheritance and your estate to costs, fees, and taxes, should be enough for anyone to start planning.

While Elvis’ estate may have been improperly managed early-on, since being bought out by his former wife, Priscilla and their daughter, Lisa Marie, it has become a major success story. With the proper management it has grown from a paltry $3 million, to over $250 million.3

The lesson to be learned lies in the stark contrast between proper and improper estate management, and shows how important an estate plan is, whether you’re “the King,” or not.

Andy Warhol was known for breaking the rules, harnessing the latest technology to express his ideas, and creating a new movement in Twentieth century art to be studied and imitated for years to come. The Andy Warhol Home Collection is divided into four design categories: Factory, Pop Abstracts, Signature, and Simply Andy. The Factory designs were influenced by the early textures and shading of Warhol’s “Factory” period.

In the 1960s Serendipity became a hangout for Andy Warhol who sketched and drank coffee there daily. Owner Stephen Bruce explains, “Andy wanted to be in a very comfortable surrounding. Serendipity happened to be very, very comfortable, very charming, and Andy felt free enough to do anything he wanted. He would stay for hours and invite friends to come by.” On sale now, at the Serendipity General Store, is a 500-piece puzzle based on Warhol’s original 1964 painting, “Marilyn,” gift-packed in a collectible tin.

Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was a key figure in Pop Art, an art movement that emerged in America and elsewhere in the 1950s to become prominent over the next two decades. The Fauves used non-representational color and representational form to convey different sensations. Apply the same idea to the portrait of Marilyn Monroe below, using the controls to adjust the colors.

One of the most celebrated artists of the twentieth century, Andy Warhol’s influence can be felt throughout all creative industries, including graphic design, communication, and fashion. In this exquisite book, Gianni Mercurio and Daniela Morera catalogue his dynamic and revolutionary career. With Andy Warhol’s fixation for glitter glamour, style, famous personalities and fashion, Elvis Presley was a more than fitting motif for his work. Warhol used a picture of Elvis from the film “Flaming Star” as the starting point for the iconic painting. Years of partnership between Rosenthal and the Andy Warhol Foundation as well as the avant-garde inheritance of the Rosenthal studio-line live on in this impressive series. Although he died in 1977, Elvis Presley still lives on to his legions of fans as “The King of Rock and Roll.” Presley was America’s first real rock star and was one of the country’s most popular entertainers in the mid to latter half of the 20th Century, perhaps eclipsed only by Frank Sinatra. Presley sung the blues and laced it with both gospel and country music elements, leading to his nickname “The Hillbilly Cat.” His voice has been described as having a unique tonality and extraordinary range, giving him the ability to tackle an array of songs and melodies that none of his contemporaries could conquer. In performing his music, Presley exuded sexuality and swagger, becoming a role model for generations of young rebels.

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935, in East Tupelo, Mississippi. He was the son of Gladys and Vernon Presley, a sewing machine operator and a truck driver. Presley’s twin brother Jesse Garon was stillborn, and Elvis grew up as an only child. Presley cut his first recordings–the songs “My Happiness” and “That’s When the Your Heartaches Begin”– in 1953 at Memphis Recording Studios, a sideline record producer Sam Phillips had started at his Sun Records studios, where anyone could record a ten inch album for four dollars. After recording several more songs for Phillips, the record producer is said to have found what he was looking for”a white man with the Negro sound and the Negro feel”. After signing with RCA in 1956 and recording “Heartbreak Hotel” Elvis became a national star. On January 28, 1956, he made his television debut on the Dorsey brothers’ Stage Show, followed by six consecutive appearances. In March, Colonial Thomas Parker became Elvis’ manager. He would receive 25% of Elvis’ earnings through a contract that lasted the singer’s lifetime and beyond.

By the 1960’s Elvis had become a pop culture icon. He toured and played old songs and new hits on the road and in Las Vegas, where he was known for his sartorial splendor and highly electric performances. He started to break all sorts of entertainment records including those for concert attendance, television ratings, and records sales, becoming one of the best-selling artists in music history. Elvis continued to perform until he passed away at age 42 from a combination of obesity, depression and abuse of prescription drugs. Although Elvis has been gone for three decades, his popularity has remained in tact. Thousands make the pilgrimage to Graceland each year to pay tribute to the king of modern rock.

Actress Ann-Margret had been quoted in a fan magazine as saying, “I want to be the female Elvis Presley.”

In 1963, Metro-Golden-Mayer, in reply to the publicity, helped make Ann-Margret’s wish come true by co-staring alongside Elvis in the multimillion-dollar film, Viva Las Vegas.

The out come of this was absolutely out standing; it was the best movie Elvis had made since coming back from the army thee years previous, and became one of the hottest box office hits and a popular success in 1964.

Viva Las Vegas was Elvis’s fourteenth movie Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer set a budget of three million dollars for Viva Las Vegas, and received a rewarding return on their investment as the movie grossed a total of more than five million dollars in United States alone.

The film proved to be Elvis’s most successful motion picture ever and his best musical, gaining a favorable outcome of wealth, and fame.

The romance between Elvis and Actress Ann-Margret on the set would however, continue off the set as well.

As the Hollywood movie stars seemed almost inseparable while filming, the rumors began floating around Hollywood satisfying the needs of the gossip goers on the grapevine.

Although Elvis and Ann-Margret were the talk of the town, it did little to damage the careers of either star.

As a matter of fact, the attention they received through the publicity was just the opposite as it attracted more attention to the film Viva Las Vegas and would help make the movie an overwhelming hit.

Even though their love affair was publicly known, the pair continued dating in private as the gossip ran wild.

There were Marriage predictions headlined on just about every fan magazine available.

While their romance continued after the filming of Viva Las Vegas, the gossip ran hotter than ever.

A short time later, Ann-Margret made an announcement from London claiming that there was a marriage in the making.

Elvis, as was his usual pattern tight lipped in these situations, refused to make any statements concerning his marital plans, it soon became evident that wedding bells would not be in his stars that year.

As of that point, the romance quickly fizzled out but Elvis and Ann-Margret would remain good friends for the rest of his life.

Elvis never dated another actress; the next real love in his life would be Priscilla Ann Beauieu.

In 1967, Elvis took Priscilla as his Queen
